from here you will be able to do additional Read 180 computer work from home, the beach, or wherever you want. There should no longer be any low software useage reports in my "Saturday Wake Up Calls".
If you are out sick, or miss a day of school, or have a fire drill, senior pictures, NWEAS - you name it...you can spend 15-20 minutes a night and do the computer section of your Daily Read 180 classroom rotation.
As you know, you are supposed to be reading at least 15 minutes a night in a book of your choice and your lexile level. Please be sure you do this.

May 16, 2013 Senior Project Day
May 17, 2013 Optional Class trip to 6 Flags. Park will close down for seniors in New England ONLY. ALL you can eat- all you can ride. Coach busses leave WHS at 3:00 in the afternoon. We will stay at the park until 1:00 AM and return back to Westerly about 3:00 am on Saturday morning. Per 6 Flags- no smoking on grounds, no drugs, no alcohol - as in any other establishment. If you choose not to follow these rules, your parents will be called and asked to come remove you and bring you home. There will be NO REFUND. Total cost is $75.00 which includes coach busses and all you can eat as well as open rides all night long. Only seniors in New England are invited. Park will close down for SENIORS ONLY at 6 pm.

June 3, 2013 SENIOR PICNIC HOLIDAY HILLS Cheshire, CT. Report to Ward Auditorium at 6:30 AM. Bring bathing suit and towel. Coach busses leave WHS at 7:00 am and will return at 6:00 pm. Please bring a light colored or white tshirt with you. There is a "station" where you can learn to tye dye a t-shirt. Fun, ALL YOU CAN EAT ALL DAY LONG, baseball games, giant swing, henna tattoos, dancing, hypnotist, pools, you name it! COST- $40.00 pp. Your class is paying for the coach busses for you for free.
June 8, 2013 SENIOR PROM GRAND BALLROOM PROVIDENCE BILTMORE HOTEL 6-11:00pm FREE TO ALL MEMBERS OF THE CLASS OF 2013. If you are bringing an underclassman, or someone from another school, you must pay $55.00 for their ticket. Hopefully there will be a Waterfire that night. Theme is Jay Gatsby's Gala, "Forever Young". Doors open at 6:00 pm and close at 6:30. PROM WILL END AT 11:00 pm. Photos available for sale from Lifetouch. You will get the brochure from Lifetouch when you get your prom ticket.

3/2/13 Meeting 2:00 for all contestants, escorts, dance girls- everyone involved in Mr. WHS
3/7 7:00 Hypnotist show - fund raiser for the class of 2013 Tickets are $10.00 at school, $12.00 at the door. This is a brand new show 4.0. Watch the jumbotron in the gym foyer from the show 2 years ago.
Mr WHS Rehersals
3/11 and 3/12 (2-5) Rehersal for all contestants to learn opening number and basic format of the show.
3/14-3/19- (2-5) 2-3 guys will be assigned to one of these afternoons to go over his talent and make sure its not over 3 minutes.
3/20 2-5 Light Dress Rehersal for all. Go over bathing suits, walk outs etc.
3/21- FULL DRESS REHERSAL 2-5
3/22 2-5 FULL DRESS REHERSAL
EAT DINNER AT SCHOOL- each brings own
The tickets will go on sale on Monday, March 18th. through at the door on the night of the event. Tickets are $10.00 in school and $12.00 at the door.
SAVE THE DATE- Mr. WHS returns to WHS on Friday nite, March 22, 2013. We have 17 contestants this year...thanks to everyone who has offered to compete. Talent time will be limited to 3 minutes. Theme is WHO LET THE DAWGS OUT?
Contestants will be open the show with a dance rendition to Who Let the Dawgs Out....surely something you do not want to miss! Categories for competition include individual talent- and there are some pretty innovative ones you dont want to miss. Bathing suits is another category that is always a favorite. Usually the guys show up in some pretty awesome outfits! Formal wear will be judged as well as a question and answer session.
DEFINITELY SOMETHING YOU DO NOT WANT TO MISS! You will hurt from laughing at these senior boys. In the end, one will be crowned MR. WHS. Tickets are $10. in school/ $12 at the door. Dont be locked out!
Save the date! Hypnotist Dan Candell will return to WHS on Thursday night, March 7, 2013 at 7:00 PM in the WARD Auditorium. This will be one of the last fundraisers for the CLASS OF 2013. Tickets will be for sale after the Winter break and are $10.each. At the door, tickets are $12.00 each. Dan has a brand new show this year, we think you will be impressed.
Anyone who wants to be hypnotized must have a parental permission form filled out. Dan will choose contestants from these signed slips.

Special thanks to all the Class Officers who gave so unselfishly of themselves with the pashmina sale again this year. The class couldnt have done it without you. Austin, Ben, Amber, Tor, Kayla, Eddie, Mitchell, Ollie- we had parent pashmina representatives in every school in the district!!! Thanks for all you do! Thanks too for your help at the bazaars and the stroll. Its kinda sad to see this coming to an end. We've had a great four years with this one product. Thanks!
Also, Mrs. Bowen, Morgans mom was able to sell a lot of pashminas at their store.
Thanks to everyone who helped, once again, this year. The final count is not in yet, but things are looking really well. We still have some items left over if anyone wants a pashmina, an infinity, an animal hat, texting gloves, or scarf for $5.00. Where can you beat that deal?
School Committee Representative
As many of you know, senior Oliver Thompson serves as the student liason to the Westerly School Committee. He accompanies Mr. Ruscito to all of the meetings and is frequently called upon by the school committee to give input from the student body here at WHS (grades 9-12). Accepting this student responsibility is quite an honor. Congratulations to Ollie!
Special Congratulations to senior Ryan Foley who, with the help of his mom, has sold thousands of dollars worth of pashminas this year. Great Job, Ryan!
We will be giving the pashmina fund raiser to the class of 2014 and each succeeding senior class for a senior fund raiser. Good luck to all who follow- its been a great four years and you have made a lot of money without selling cookie dough and wrapping paper!

9/11 MEMORIAL COBBLESTONE from Class of 2013
The Class of 2013 has recently sponsored a memorial cobblestone on the 9/11 plaza at Ground Zero. Forthcoming is a list of donors which will indicate where our cobblestone is.
The cobblestone is the size of a brick and is in honor of the Class of 2013. It says:

SENIOR BBQ w/ free SENIOR T SHIRTS
Your Senior year is off to a great start. Soon after the Welcome Back Dance, we will host the traditional SENIOR BBQ on Sunday afternoon September 30th from 1-4 at the Town Beach. Every senior will receive their traditional SENIOR t-shirt at the BBQ. Special thanks to Clare Adams' dad for giving us a great price on these and therefore they will be FREE to each of you. We have enough money in our account to do this.
THe BBQ is traditionally hamburgers, hotdogs, etc. This year, your officers have decided to invite your parents as well. (Parents are also a major part of your graduation year and many havent seen each other since you were in elementary school. This has never been done before and once again, YOU ARE WHO YOU ARE!) Parents are asked to bring some type of dish- or chips, dessert etc. The class will pay for hamburgers, hot dogs, water, paper goods, and condiments.
There will be a parent/student TUG OF WAR as well as a life sized GENGA game as well as other games and music. Its a special way to thank all of your parents who have been so willing to help throughout these past years and also as a pre-thank you to them as they organize your ALL NIGHT GRAD party. No sibilings (sorry)- just you and a parent(s) etc. Next year, when you are in college, I know you will reflect upon this special end of the summer event and have some very fond memories.

BACK TO SCHOOL DANCE
Well, can you believe it? This year marks your very final year of public schooling. It seems as though only yesterday I was reading a book about a lighthouse and a little girl w/ a lantern with several of you as 6th graders. YIKES does time fly!
Mr. Ruscito has approved the senior sponsored BACK TO SCHOOL DANCE for Saturday night, Septmeber 22,, 2012. All of the class officers from every grade (except 9) have been meeting with Mr. Ruscito to develop a "Dance Policy". There will be additional information to follow.
Tickets will be $10.
Please listen to the announcements for further directions. We need NO LESS than 15 WHS teacher chaperones. Please encourage your teachers to help. This dance will serve as a "trial dance" for others to follow.

Where has the time gone? It seems only yesterday we were all at the closing ceremonies at Westerly Middle School. Mrs. Larson and I would be joining you as we left the middle school and ventured to uncharted territory at Westerly High School. This morning, as I write this, its hard to realize that you are all members of the Senior Class at WHS. Yikes!

Holiday Hills for your Senior Picnic. This is in Cheshire, CT and from what Mrs. Larson and I experienced with the Class of 2012, you will love it here! Its been a WHS tradition to venture to Holiday Hills for the senior picnic. I believe this date is Monday, June 11, 2013.
GRADUATION- FRIDAY EVENING, JUNE 15, 2013

The Mystic Mariott for your Senior Banquet. This will be the night before graduation and is for members of the senior class and administration/faculty only. Its our last chance to wish you well and send you on your way. Traditionally, the Mystic Mariott has been the venue of choice for the WHS Senior Banquet as well. They have agreed to incorporate the CT tax into the final price and to compete with a RI facility. This date will be on the night before Graduation, Thursday, June 14, 2013.
The Senior Prom- currently looking at the Biltmore in Pvd as well as The Marble House and possibly other mansions in Newport. Trying to book Friday nite, June 8th. More to follow.

It was my pleasure to join Mr Lemontowicz, Mrs. Sammataro, and Mrs. Storey at the RI Department of Education as our State Comnmissioner praised Westerly High School's READING necap scores. This year, 92.4% of you scored proficiency in Reading, as compared to 82.8% of you in grade 8. Kudos for all your hard work, and for all the hard work and hours ALL of your teachers at WHS put in for you.
